nottingham. and route 279 at bell hill road, lanes remain blocked. and westbound northern parkway at falls road, they had a watermain break, it's been repaired but they are till repairing the street and one lane only gets by. that could cause delays this morning. as we look at the cameras, this is going to be mlk at fayette street downtown. the city is still pretty quiet. this traffic report brought to you by baltimore's country station 93.1 wpoc, you'll find great music from stars like taylor swift, kenny chesney and keith urban and rascal flatts. back to you. 5:31. pittsburgh police know 70 people were in the l.a. fitness center outside the steel city. they know the gunman walked in with a bag, turned out the lights, started shooting. they don't even know how many shots were fired. cheryl conner with new information. >> reporter: the victims were dancing minutes before that frightening scene unfolded. police say the gunman walked into an aerobics room, started firing. by the time he was finished four people were dead including himself and at least 10 others were injured.

you're looking at the scene around 8:00 last night. the state police superintendent in allegheny county held a news conference early this morning saying the gunman used a gym bag to carry in two handguns. he had swiped his membership card before walking into a latin dance class and firing at least 50 rounds. sources are telling local reporters one of the victims was the gunman's ex-girlfriend. she was shot in the thigh. >> he knew exactly where he was going. pulled the guns out and started shooting. >> i helped carry out the one girl. she got shot in the thigh and she kept saying she was going to die. yeah. it's crazy stuff. i can't believe it. i'm in shock. i don't know what to think of it. >> reporter: one woman wounded is an aerobics instructor who just told her class she's pregnant. the gym just opened last summer after a portion of the shopping center caught on fire. detectives are still working this morning to identify all of the victims.

cheryl conner, abc2 news. the same night that the pittsburgh shooting took place communities all around the nation and right here in baltimore celebrated national night out to take a stand against shootings and crimes. the event, symbolic way for communities to fight crime in their neighborhoods by taking back their streets. we saw food, entertainment, education offered by city providers. we talked to people who told us while they continue to witness street violence they believe events like this has some impact in building a stronger partnership between police and the community. >> anything that shows there's somebody else here by us, always going to help. i don't know how how much it's going to help right off the bat because they just really are getting back to it but in the long run i'm sure it will help. >> this was the 26th annual celebration of national night out. 911 call from a westminster shopping center leads police to a man who was allegedly threatening people with a knife. all because of his myspace page. anthony palmerino said he left

a cybercafe at the carroll plaza sunday when 20-year-old george arts confronted him and accused him of deleting friends from his myspace page. >> like, he came right towards me and pulled out his knife and started coming towards me and stuff. i was -- i jumped back. i was really scared. >> state police caught up with arts outside of a grocery store across the street and arrested him. according to court documents he has a history of mental disorders. a theft in a montgomery county saks fifth avenue store is under investigation. police even have a picture of the suspect. one problem, they can't determine if it's a man or woman. they say she or possibly he grabbed a chanel dress worth about $2,400. somehow the suspect got the security tags off and then took off. they are hoping to get these images out and not only help them but get an arrest on this, and also determine who this person is. it didn't take long for ocean city police to crack down on businesses selling salvia.

that is because the hallucinogenic herb that had been sold legally in boardwalk shops. city council banned the substance with emergency legislation. last night o.c. police did a sweep of businesses finding three in possession of salvia. ocean wave on dorchester street near -- also ocean beachwear on atlantic act and the rave on north baltimore avenue. it's banned in 10 states but still not here in maryland. we've seen them trotting all over town for years now. >> can't pet a patrol car but you can pet a horse. >> the mounted horse patrol in the city falls on tough times. and how more and more people are taking a shortcut to complain. and take a live look outside from the harbor cam. 71 degrees. here's mark jones with the mta report. >> reporter: good morning. the commute start is good out there on the marc train, no delays on the camden, penn, brunswick lines. light rail and metro subway

towson catholic to stay open for the coming school year. the lawsuit was filed july 14th by two parkville residents and two towson catholic parents. their lawsuit stated that the school and archdiocese broke promises to students by deciding to close. that's when a baltimore law firm filed a motion to dismiss saying there's no contractual or other arrangement between the parties binding towson catholic to remain open. the archdiocese says the school is closing because of dwindling funds and low enrollment. that hearing starts at 9:0 this morning -- 9:30 this morning. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. 5:44. let's bring you up to date on the top stories. police say four people are now dead after a gunman walked into a suburban pittsburgh health club last night and opened fire. they say two women died at the club. a third woman died on the way to the hospital. the man, believed to be the gunman took his own life at the scene. an airplane carrying former

president bill clinton and two journalists freed by north korea is about an hour away from landing in los angeles. euna lee and laura ling had been serving 12 years of hard labor after being convicted in june of entering north korea illegally. the women had been detained since march. the fbi has now joined the investigation into a baltimore county couple accused of sexually assaulting children using them nor porn for pornography. shannon honea and john nicklas were arrested last week after police found evidence of child porn in their middle river home. john nicklas's ex-wife confirmed to abc2 he does have one son and two young sisters and police are looking into whether those children or any other relatives were victimized. according to court documents the assaults happened in the couple's home and in an atlanta hotel room. but police say the pair taped children in a location out of state.

the $5 million bond was with held for shannon honea. she's held without bail. if you know children who may have been in contact with the suspects you're urged to call 410-853-3650, the crimes against children's unit. overnight photographer pete "on the street" o'neal out there on the scene of this, hit-and-run in downtown baltimore. sources say a car was speeding away from police right down saratoga when the driver struck a pedestrian. police took the driver into custody. the pedestrian was rushed to the hospital. is expected to recover. talk about a tough break. glen burnie's high school football team has to forfeit its first game of the year because of illegal practice. according to the rulebooks in anne arundel county high school teams cannot practice outside of the practice period which starts august 15th and several glen burnie players practiced using school equipment back in june. so glen burnie was supposed to play south river high school in the season opener for both

teams on september 4th. that game will go on but it will be recorded as a forfeit win for south river. unless someone rides to the rescue a baltimore tradition could be trotting into the sunset. charm city's mounted police department has been around for 121 years but now city council has slashed funding and the mounted patrol is running out of money to feed and board its six horses. officers say the patrol is not only an important crime-fighting tool but also a very key part of community relations. >> you can't pet a patrol car but you can pet a horse. and in some of the communities that we walk around we find that people will actually come up to our horses and pet them. as they are petting them will let us know different things that are going on in the area. >> police spokesman says they are hoping to raise $200,000 in private donations with the help of a baltimore police foundation. that money would then go toward vet bills, feed and other needs. keep the mounted police still in our city.

she made an average singer feel they could actually win. now they have to find new protection. paula abdul will not return for her ninth year on "american idol." last night paula tweeted her decision saying with sadness in my heart i decided not to return to the show. the rumor is that jennifer lopez is going to replace paula abdul. we'll find out. you may think of twitter as just another social networking web site but many users discovered it's a fast and easy way to resolve customer service complaints. abc2 news samantha hayes explains it to us. >> reporter: got a complaint? when you call a company's customer service line you often hear something like this - >> your call is important to us. please stay on the line. >> reporter: and sometimes you never get an answer. >> mostly it's the people you call simply don't have any kind of real expertise in whatever -- whatever product you're dealing with. >> reporter: fed up with poor customer service some consumers are finding another way,

twitter, the social networking site, it's also a place where consumers can tweet their complaints and many major companies are paying attention. >> so, if i post on my twitter account i had a bad experience with comcast and i get a message back from comcast the person who is liable to write you back is probably better positioned to fix my problem faster than somebody of the general customer service line. >> reporter: using twitter amounts to shouting your complaint through a megaphone, companies don't want one customer's bad experience to influence others. >> on twitter i have a short little message i can do in seconds. and that puts the onus then from someone from the company to get back to me. it changes the dynamic. instead of me being at the whim of the company, they are now having to respond to my now more powerful voice. >> reporter: but using twitter also has its risks. responses may come from scammers too. >> just because you're using twitter doesn't mean that the

responses you get back are necessarily from the company. >> reporter: in washington, i'm samantha hayes, abc2 news. we are looking at 5:50 now. 71 degrees. very humid outside and some areas of fog especially north of the beltway and east where we had that one thundershower develop in -- about joppatowne in harford county roll its way up 95 on in through cecil county. that was yesterday afternoon. otherwise looking at a dry setup. a little bit of patchy fog. the satellite and radar composite, a little bit deceiving in the early morning hours but essentially back here is where the cold front sits. ahead of it we have the warm flow of air coming up from the south. more showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon. though it doesn't look very active right now. our forecast model indicating the fact that showers should generate lunchtime through about 2:00 in the western mountains of maryland on in through the nortrn suburbs of philadelphia, northern new jersey and new york. that line starts to fill back

in, get a little more active as we head through the latter afternoon and evening hours and around the bay to the eastern shore we have the threat of showers continuing through this evening and overnight and tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. there's our timeline on the eastern shore. slowly trying to get dry air working from the north. though south of baltimore and around the bay could be another resurgence of showers with the slow-moving front as we head through tomorrow afternoon. the setup for today, our two-degree guarantee gets us to 85. we'll be warm and humid and though we have rain on the grass, the rain will probably hold off until the afternoon. the morning should be dry. tonight, showers, thunder, 71. and tomorrow, we pull back to 83. showers still possible in the morning, especially south of baltimore. heading on in through tomorrow night, lows still near 70. 84 friday. then crank up the heat over the weekend. could be back into the low 90s just afternoon showers by sunday and monday. as we look here at the outer loop, 695 at liberty road, traffic is flowing freely up through about the route 70
